Orange Stonecrop 'Weihenstephaner Gold'
Formerly classified under Sedum, this robust, mat-forming perennial is one of the most reliable succulents for the UK garden. It features serrated, fleshy green leaves that often take on bronze or reddish tints in autumn and winter. In early to mid-summer, the plant is covered in a profusion of bright yellow, star-shaped flowers that age to a coppery orange, giving the cultivar its name. It is extremely hardy (H7) and versatile, happy in rockeries, at the front of borders, or even in containers. It reaches a height of about 15cm and spreads steadily to form a dense weed-suppressing carpet. It is unfussy about soil type as long as it is well-drained and can tolerate both full sun and very light shade. This cultivar is particularly valued for its vigorous growth and the intensity of its floral display, which provides an important late-spring nectar source.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Any well-drained soil.
