Dwarf French Bean 'Annabel,description:'

'Annabel' is a superb modern variety of dwarf French bean, celebrated for its incredibly high yields and high-quality pods. As a "dwarf" variety, it grows into a compact, bushy plant about 45cm tall, meaning it doesn't require the poles or trellises needed by climbing beans. This makes it ideal for smaller gardens, raised beds, or even large containers. It produces a mass of very straight, fine, dark-green pods that are completely stringless and have a wonderful "snap" when broken. It is a "filet" type bean, best harvested when the pods are young and slender. In the UK, it is frost-tender (H2) and should be sown from May onwards. It prefers a sunny, sheltered spot and a soil that stays moist but well-drained. It produces attractive small white flowers before the pods appear. Its habit of concentrated cropping makes it excellent for those who want to harvest a large amount at once for freezing or preserving.

Sun: Full sun.

Soil: Rich, well-drained, moisture-retentive soil.
