Runner Bean 'St George'
'St George' is a high-yielding runner bean cultivar, distinguished by its vigorous climbing habit and beautifully variegated red and white flowers, making it an attractive addition to the garden. It produces long, straight, stringless pods with an excellent flavour and texture. The vines can reach an impressive 3-4m in height, requiring substantial support, and spread about 30-45cm. This H1C hardy plant is best grown as an annual in the UK, sown after the last frost. It thrives in full sun and rich, well-drained soil. Regular watering and harvesting encourage continuous production throughout the summer. The flowers are a magnet for bees, significantly boosting pollination and thus yield. An RHS AGM winner for its reliability.
