Runner Bean 'Enorma'

'Enorma' is a powerhouse in the world of runner beans, consistently winning awards for its exhibition-quality pods. It produces exceptionally long, straight, and smooth pods that can reach over 30cm in length while remaining tender and stringless if picked regularly. The plants are extremely vigorous, requiring sturdy support such as a traditional bamboo cane A-frame. They produce attractive bright scarlet flowers that are not only decorative but also highly attractive to pollinators. In the UK, runner beans are a summer staple, but they are sensitive to frost and should not be planted out until late May or early June. 'Enorma' is known for its heavy yields and its ability to keep producing until the first frosts of autumn. It requires plenty of water, particularly when the flowers are setting fruit; a mulch at the base can help retain soil moisture. The beans are delicious when steamed and served with butter, or can be frozen for winter use.
