Breadseed Poppy 'Laurens Grape'
'Lauren's Grape' is a stunning annual poppy highly prized in UK gardens for its sophisticated, deep plum-purple single flowers. Reaching heights of approximately 90cm to 1.2m, it provides impressive vertical interest in mixed borders. The glaucus, blue-green foliage provides a beautiful cool-toned substrate for the rich blooms. Following the atmospheric flowering period in early summer, the plant produces attractive, large seed pods that are excellent for drying and flower arranging. This variety is generally very reliable in the British climate and often self-seeds gently if the soil is disturbed. It thrives in a sunny spot with well-drained soil and requires little maintenance other than removing spent heads if self-seeding is not desired. As a hardy annual, it can be sown in autumn for earlier flowers or in spring for a summer display. It is particularly effective when planted in drifts among silver-foliaged perennials or ornamental grasses.
