Shirley poppy 'Amazing Grey'
Papaver rhoeas 'Amazing Grey' is a truly unique and ethereal hardy annual that has taken the UK gardening world by storm. It produces delicate, papery flowers in extraordinary shades of smoky grey, lavender-blue, and slate, often with a silver-white edge or a dark centre. The flowers can vary from single to semi-double and have a translucent quality that catches the light beautifully. Reaching around 60cm in height, it is ideal for adding a touch of mystery and movement to a sunny border. Like most poppies, it is best sown directly into the soil in spring or autumn, as it does not transplant well. It prefers a position in full sun with well-drained soil. Although the individual flowers are short-lived, the plant produces a constant stream of new buds. The resulting seed heads are also decorative and can be left for winter interest or to self-seed. This variety is a must for any cutting garden or contemporary floral design.
