Scurvy grass / Nine-leaved oxalis 'Ione Hecker'

Oxalis enneaphylla 'Ione Hecker' is an exquisite, small, rhizomatous perennial that is a gem for a shaded rock garden or the edge of a woodland path. This cultivar is prized for its attractive, glaucous, grey-green leaves that are arranged in a multi-lobed, fan-like fashion, creating a beautiful architectural rosette. In late spring and early summer, it produces relatively large, funnel-shaped flowers that are a stunning shade of deep violet-pink with darker veining and a yellow throat. Reaching only 5-10cm in height, it is a diminutive plant that demands a well-drained but moisture-retentive soil, preferably with plenty of grit and organic matter. It is fully hardy (H5) but does not like excessive winter wet, which can rot its scaly rhizomes. Native to the Falkland Islands and Patagonia, it appreciates a cool, partially shaded position. It is a slow-growing and refined plant that is highly sought after by alpine and woodland enthusiasts for its jewel-like quality and fascinating foliage. 120-180 words.
