Mexican Weeping Bamboo
Otatea acuminata, commonly known as Mexican Weeping Bamboo, is a graceful, clump-forming species that creates a soft, fountain-like display with its delicate, narrow leaves and slender, arching culms. This non-invasive bamboo is admired for its elegant, airy texture, typically reaching an ultimate height of 3-5 metres with a spread of 2-3 metres. It is less hardy than many other bamboos, rated H3, tolerating temperatures down to -5°C, and thus best suited for milder UK climates or sheltered positions, potentially needing winter protection in colder areas. 'Acuminata' thrives in full sun to partial shade and requires well-drained soil. Flowering is rare. Its unique, fine texture and weeping habit make it a superb ornamental specimen, adding movement and a tropical touch to courtyards or borders.
