Star of Bethlehem

Ornithogalum umbellatum, commonly known as Star of Bethlehem, is a resilient tuberous perennial that produces charming, starry white flowers with a vibrant green stripe on the reverse. These delicate blooms open in sunshine, creating a bright display in late spring and early summer. Its narrow, strap-like, often silvery-striped foliage adds to its appeal. This plant is known for its ability to naturalise readily, forming spreading carpets in lawns, borders, or under deciduous trees in UK gardens. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and adapts to a wide range of well-drained soils. While beautiful, care should be taken as it can be vigorous. It's a low-maintenance plant that offers a cheerful and bright display.
