Wild Marjoram 'Country Cream'
'Country Cream' is a decorative, variegated form of Oregano that is equally at home in the flower border or the kitchen garden. It forms a low, spreading mound of leaves that are neatly edged with a creamy-white margin, providing a bright splash of colour even when not in flower. The flavour is milder than the standard wild oregano, but it can still be used to season Mediterranean dishes. In late summer, it produces clusters of small, pale pink flowers that contrast beautifully with the variegated foliage and are loved by pollinators. It is fully hardy (H6) and very easy to grow in the UK, provided it is not sitting in winter-wet soil. It is particularly effective as an edging plant or as part of a container display where its trailing stems can hang over the sides. A light trim after flowering will help maintain the variegation and prevent the plant from becoming too woody or sprawling. local bees will thank you for its nectar-rich blooms.
