Love-in-a-Mist 'Albion Green Pod'

'Albion Green Pod' is a sophisticated and highly decorative variety of Nigella, differing from the common blue types. It produces pure white, starry flowers nestled within a ruff of finely-cut, feathery foliage. However, it is perhaps most valued for its large, decorative seed pods that follow the blooms. These pods are light green with dark markings and maintain a structural, balloon-like shape that looks spectacular in both the border and in dried flower arrangements. Reaching about 45-60cm, it is an easy, "sow and forget" annual for UK gardeners. It is best sown directly where it is to flower in either autumn or spring. Nigella does not like to be moved. It is fully hardy (H4) and will self-seed freely if the pods are left on the plant. This cultivar adds a touch of airy elegance to cottage gardens and works beautifully when interspersed with more substantial, rounded flower heads.
