White Cup

A charming and unusual alpine from South America that has adapted well to UK gardens. It forms a completely prostrate mat of small, rounded green leaves that hug the ground. Throughout the summer, it produces large, upward-facing, cup-shaped flowers of pure white with a delicate yellow centre. The flowers appear remarkably large for the size of the plant, often completely hiding the foliage. It is a great plant for a sunny rockery or for planting in the crevices of a patio where it can spread through underground stolons. It is hardy (H4) but may need some protection from the harshest winter frosts in colder parts of the UK. It prefers a soil that is moist but well-drained and a very sunny position to encourage the best display of flowers. Its late-season blooming makes it a valuable plant for extending the period of interest in an alpine collection.碎,flowering_months:[
