Tobacco Plant 'Appleblossom'

Nicotiana x sanderae 'Appleblossom' is a delightful annual that brings both colour and fragrance to the UK garden. This variety produces a profusion of star-shaped flowers that are white on the inside with a delicate soft pink reverse, closely mimicking the look of apple blossoms. Reaching a height of about 60cm, it has a bushy, branching habit and remains covered in flowers for many months. Unlike some of its wild relatives, the flowers of this hybrid stay open during the day, although their sweet scent becomes significantly stronger in the evening, making it a perfect choice for planting near a patio or seating area. It is a half-hardy annual that is easy to grow from seed. It prefers a position in full sun or partial shade and likes a moist but well-drained soil. It is also surprisingly wind-tolerant. In the UK, it is often used in mixed bedding schemes or as a filler in herbaceous borders. It is attractive to long-tongued moths that visit in the twilight.

Sun: Full sun to partial shade.

Soil: Moist but well-drained, fertile soil.
