Catmint 'Six Hills Giant'
Nepeta × faassenii 'Six Hills Giant' is one of the most popular and robust catmints for the UK garden. As its name suggests, it is a vigorous grower, forming a large, spreading mound of aromatic, grey-green foliage that can reach up to 90cm in height. Throughout the summer, it is covered in a cloud of small, lavender-blue tubular flowers held on long spikes. It is a fantastic plant for the middle of a sunny border, where it can spill over edges and provide a soft, hazy backdrop for other perennials. It is famously attractive to bees, which will visit in droves. After the first flush of flowers has faded, cutting the plant back hard will often result in a second, equally impressive display later in the season. It is extremely hardy (H7) and drought-tolerant once established, making it suitable for a wide range of garden styles, including gravel gardens and coastal locations. It prefers a well-drained soil in a sunny position. Its aromatic leaves are a joy when brushed against.
