Garden Catmint 'Kit Cat'

A dwarf, compact version of the popular catmint, 'Kit Cat' is ideal for edging paths or filling gaps at the front of a Mediterranean border. It forms a low-growing, dense mound of small, aromatic, grey-green leaves. From early summer right through to autumn, it produces a continuous display of tiny, tubular, lavender-blue flowers on short, upright spikes. It is an exceptionally hardy (H7) and reliable perennial that thrives in the UK climate. Bees find it irresistible. It prefers a position in full sun and well-drained soil, though it is more tolerant of different soil types than many other Mediterranean plants. After the first flush of flowers begins to fade, cutting the whole plant back to the ground will encourage a second, fresh crop of foliage and flowers. Unlike some larger catmints, 'Kit Cat' maintains its neat shape and does not flop over neighbouring plants, making it a tidy addition to any garden scheme.

Sun: Full sun to partial shade.

Soil: Well-drained, moderately fertile soil.
