Bog Asphodel

Narthecium ossifragum, the Bog Asphodel, is a charming native perennial of wet heaths and bogs, bringing a delicate touch of summer colour. It produces slender, upright spikes of star-shaped, bright yellow flowers, often tinged with orange, from mid-summer onwards. These cheerful blooms are followed by attractive orange seed capsules that extend the season of interest. It features narrow, sword-like, grey-green leaves arranged in a fan. This plant thrives in consistently moist to boggy, acidic soil, preferring full sun. Growing to a modest height of 15-30cm with a spread of 10-15cm, it's perfect for smaller bog gardens or the very edge of acid-loving aquatic plantings. Fully hardy and a lovely addition for naturalistic schemes.
