Mulberry 'Morus Nigra'
The Black Mulberry, Morus nigra, is a magnificent and long-lived fruit tree, highly prized for its intensely flavoured, juicy, dark purple-black berries – often considered superior to other mulberries. It forms a handsome, spreading tree with attractive, slightly lobed leaves that turn yellow in autumn. While slow-growing, it can eventually become a large specimen, so it's best suited to larger gardens or as a focal point. 'Morus nigra' is self-fertile and very hardy, though it benefits from a sheltered position to protect young fruits. Inconspicuous flowers appear in May, with the delicious fruit ripening from July to September. It prefers full sun and well-drained, fertile soil.
