White Mulberry 'Pendula'
This is a highly ornamental, weeping form of the white mulberry that also produces edible fruit. It forms a small, mushroom-shaped tree with branches that cascade to the ground, creating a stunning architectural feature in the garden. The fruit is small, whitish-pink to purplish, and has a sweet, mild flavour. While not as intensely flavoured as the black mulberry, it is still a pleasant addition to the summer fruit harvest in July. The tree is very hardy and has large, glossy, heart-shaped leaves that turn gold in autumn. In spring, it produces insignificant catkin-like flowers. Its small size (usually around 2.5 meters) makes it an excellent choice for small gardens or for use as a focal point. It is self-fertile and very drought-tolerant once established. It prefers a sunny, well-drained position and can tolerate urban pollution well. A unique choice for both its beauty and its fruit.
