Bergamot / Bee Balm 'Gardenview Scarlet'
Monarda 'Gardenview Scarlet' is a vibrant and highly attractive perennial known for its striking, shaggy, rose-red flower heads. Each flower is surrounded by decorative reddish bracts, creating a bold splash of colour in the mid-to-late summer border. Its foliage is aromatic and mid-green, releasing a pleasant, spicy scent when crushed. This cultivar is particularly valued for its excellent resistance to powdery mildew, a common issue for many Monarda species in the UK's humid summers. Reaching around 90cm in height, it is a favourite of bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. It thrives in full sun or partial shade and prefers a moisture-retentive, fertile soil that does not dry out in summer. It is fully hardy (H4) and forms a spreading clump over time. Monarda 'Gardenview Scarlet' is perfect for a cottage garden or a prairie-style planting, where its intense colour and architectural flower form can be best appreciated. It also makes a fantastic cut flower for vibrant arrangements.
