Wild Bergamot 'Claire Grace'
'Claire Grace' is an outstanding cultivar of Wild Bergamot selected for its exceptional resistance to powdery mildew, a common issue for Monardas in damp UK climates. This clump-forming perennial produces sturdy, square stems topped with distinctive shaggy heads of soft lavender-purple tubular flowers. The foliage is dark green and highly aromatic, smelling of Earl Grey tea. Reaching a height of 90-120cm, it is a magnificent addition to the back of a herbaceous border or a dedicated herb garden. It is highly attractive to bees and butterflies, earning it a place in pollinator-friendly landscapes. It prefers moist but well-drained soil in full sun or very light partial shade. It is fully hardy (H7) across the UK. To maintain vigour and health, the clumps should be divided every three years in spring. The flowers are edible and make a striking garnish for salads or desserts.
