Purple Moor Grass 'Variegata'

A charming, smaller-scale moor grass that is highly valued for its neat habit and brightly variegated foliage. The leaves are striped with cream and green, forming a dense, arching tuft. In late summer, it produces slender, dark stems topped with delicate purple flower spikes that age to a golden yellow. The entire plant turns a brilliant butter-yellow in autumn, providing a final burst of colour before it goes dormant. Growing only to about 60cm, it is perfect for the front or middle of a border, or even for containers. It is fully hardy (H7) and, like all Molinias, thrives in damp, acidic to neutral soil, though it is quite tolerant of other soil types. It is a deciduous grass that should be cut back to ground level in late winter. Its slow growth and tidy shape make it a very well-behaved addition to any garden scheme.
