Japanese Silver Grass 'Morning Light'
One of the most elegant and refined of all Miscanthus, 'Morning Light' is prized for its very narrow, upright leaves with fine white margins that give the whole plant a shimmering, silvery-green appearance. It has a tidy, vase-shaped habit and rarely flops, maintaining its structure well into the winter. In the UK, it often flowers very late in the season, producing delicate, reddish plumes, or may not flower at all in cooler summers, but the foliage is beauty enough. It is fully hardy (H6) and prefers a sunny spot in moist but well-drained soil. This grass is perfect for adding light and texture to a border without the bulk of other Miscanthus varieties. It also makes a superb container plant due to its graceful form. Cut back to ground level in late February. Its luminous quality is particularly effective when planted against a dark background or at the end of a vista.
