Livingstone Daisy
Mesembryanthemum crystallinum, commonly known as Livingstone Daisy or Ice Plant, is a dazzling annual that carpet the ground with an array of iridescent, daisy-like flowers. While the species name *crystallinum* refers to the shimmering bladder cells on its leaves, for garden use, it's often the colourful cultivars that shine. These low-growing plants are perfect for rockeries, borders, or adding vibrant splashes of colour to dry, sunny areas. Livingstone Daisies demand full sun to truly open their spectacular blooms, and thrive in poor to moderately fertile, very well-drained soil. They are remarkably drought-tolerant once established, making them an excellent choice for challenging, exposed sites. Their vibrant hues of pink, orange, yellow, and white create a truly eye-catching display, particularly on bright, sunny days.
