Orange Mint

Orange Mint is a delightful variety of mint that offers a distinct departure from the standard spearmint scent. Its rounded, deep-green leaves are often tinged with bronze or purple and release a sophisticated fragrance reminiscent of bergamot or Earl Grey tea with a hint of citrus. It is a vigorous perennial, spreading via runners, and like all mints, it is best grown in a container to prevent it from overwhelming the garden. In late summer, it produces attractive spikes of lavender-pink flowers that are popular with hoverflies. It is fully hardy (H7) and thrives in a range of UK conditions, though it prefers a moist soil and can handle partial shade very well. The leaves are excellent for infusion in teas, adding to fruit salads, or even making a jelly to accompany lamb. Cutting the plant back hard after flowering ensures a fresh supply of the aromatic foliage throughout the growing season.
