Ginger Mint 'Aurea'
Also known as Scotch Mint, Mentha x gracilis 'Aurea' is one of the most visually stunning mints available for UK gardens. It features bright green leaves that are dramatically splashed and striped with vivid gold, making it a highlight in any herb collection. The foliage has a unique, warm scent that combines the coolness of mint with a distinct hint of spicy ginger. This makes it an excellent choice for making unusual herb teas, garnishing fruit salads, or adding to summer drinks. Like most mints, it is a vigorous grower that spreads by underground stolons; in a UK garden context, it is highly recommended to grow it in a pot or a sunken container to keep it in check. It prefers a moist soil and will retain its best golden variegation if grown in a spot with plenty of light, though it can tolerate some afternoon shade. It is fully hardy and will die back to the ground in winter before reappearing with fresh, bright growth in the spring.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
