Curly Mint 'Moroccan'

Mentha spicata var. crispa 'Moroccan' is widely considered the best mint for making authentic mint tea and mojitos due to its exceptionally clear, sweet, and strong spearmint flavour without the bitter aftertaste found in some other varieties. It is a vigorous, spreading perennial that grows to about 60cm tall, with bright green, deeply textured and crinkled leaves. Like all mints, it spreads by underground runners and is best grown in a large pot or a restricted area to prevent it from overwhelming the garden. It is extremely hardy (H7) and thrives in moist soil and partial shade, though it will also grow well in sun if kept watered. In late summer, it produces spikes of pale lilac flowers that are beloved by pollinators. Regular picking of the tips will encourage a bushier habit and a constant supply of fresh, aromatic leaves. In the UK, it is a garden essential for its versatility in both the kitchen and the bar.
