Corsican Mint

Mentha requienii, known as Corsican Mint, is a wonderfully diminutive and aromatic groundcover mint, perfect for UK gardens where its miniature scale can be appreciated. Hailing from Corsica and Sardinia, this prostrate perennial forms a dense mat of tiny, bright green leaves that, when brushed or trodden upon, release an intense peppermint scent. It thrives in partial shade to full sun and moist, well-drained soil, often nestling happily between paving stones or in rock gardens. In summer, it produces minute, barely noticeable lilac flowers, adding to its charm. While not typically used in large culinary quantities due to its size, its strong flavour makes it an interesting garnish or a subtle addition to drinks. It's generally hardy (H4) but appreciates some protection from very harsh frosts in colder parts of the UK. Corsican Mint is an excellent choice for filling crevices, creating a fragrant path, or as a living carpet under other plants, offering both visual appeal and an olfactory delight.
