Stock 'Iron Blue'
Matthiola incana 'Iron Blue' is a captivating biennial stock, highly prized in UK gardens for its intense colour and rich, clove-like fragrance. This splendid cultivar produces dense spikes of double, deep indigo-blue flowers, creating a truly opulent display. Reaching around 60-75cm in height, it makes an excellent cut flower, filling indoor spaces with its intoxicating scent, and is equally superb in borders. 'Iron Blue' is generally hardy (H3) but benefits from some winter protection in colder regions, preferring full sun and a fertile, well-drained, alkaline soil. Sow seeds in late summer for spring blooms, or in early spring for summer flowering. Regular deadheading encourages more blooms.
