Apple 'Greensleeves'
Developed at the East Malling Research Station in Kent, 'Greensleeves' is a reliable, easy-to-grow dessert apple that is perfect for the UK climate. It is a cross between 'James Grieve' and 'Golden Delicious', resulting in a tree that is very productive and hardy. The fruit is medium-sized with a clean, bright green-yellow skin that is smooth and attractive. The flesh is crisp, juicy, and has a refreshing, tangy-sweet flavour. One of its standout features for the home gardener is its naturally compact and tidy growth habit, making it an excellent choice for small gardens or for training as a cordon. It is partially self-fertile and a very reliable cropper from a young age. The blossom is white and comes out in mid-spring. Harvest is in mid-September, and the fruit keeps well for a few weeks. It is famously easy to pick as the fruit detaches easily when ripe.
