Crab Apple Adirondack 'Adirondack'

A superb, narrowly upright crab apple that is perfect for small gardens or tight spaces. 'Adirondack' is renowned for its prolific flowering and neat habit. In late spring, the tree is almost entirely smothered in dark carmine-red buds that open to large, waxy, brilliant white flowers. These are followed by dense clusters of small, bright orange-red fruits that persist well into the winter. Unlike many other crab apples, it maintains a tidy, columnar shape without the need for intensive pruning. It has excellent disease resistance, particularly to scab and mildew, which often affect other Malus species in the UK climate. The leaves are a dark, healthy green through the summer. It is fully hardy (H6) and thrives in most soil types, provided it is well-drained. Its upright form makes it an excellent choice for framing an entrance or for use as a repeated vertical element in a garden design. High wildlife value for both bees and birds.
