Annual Mallow 'White Perfection'
Malope trifida 'White Perfection' is a fast-growing and showy hardy annual that brings a touch of elegant height to the summer border. It produces large, glistening, trumpet-shaped white flowers with a prominent green 'star' at the base of the throat. Each bloom has a satiny texture and can reach up to 7-8cm across. The plant itself is vigorous, reaching a height of around 90cm, with attractive, deeply lobed dark green leaves. It is a hardy annual (H3) and is best town directly into the soil in spring. In the UK, it is valued for its long flowering season and its ability to act as a brilliant 'lightener' in mixed borders. It prefers a sunny position and fertile, well-drained soil. Malope is also an excellent cut flower, and the stems should be harvested when the first few flowers have opened. It is often less prone to the rust diseases that can plague perennial mallows and hollyhocks. Its clean, white blooms are particularly striking when planted against a dark evergreen hedge or mixed with deep purple flowers. Robust and rewarding.
