Oregon Grape 'Apollo'

A robust and architectural evergreen shrub, 'Apollo' is a striking mahonia, appreciated for its bold, holly-like, spiny, dark green leaves that often develop attractive purplish tints in winter. In early spring, it produces erect clusters of bright yellow, fragrant flowers that provide a valuable source of early nectar for pollinators. These are followed by edible, blue-black berries. It has an upright, spreading habit and is excellent for adding structure and year-round interest to borders, woodland gardens, or as a tough groundcover. It tolerates deep shade and dry conditions.

Sun: Partial shade to full shade.

Soil: Well-drained, tolerant of poor soil.

Hardiness: H6 — down to −20°C.

Flowering: Mar, Apr.
