Brooklyn Magnolia 'Yellow Bird'
Magnolia 'Yellow Bird' is a magnificent deciduous tree that brings a rare and sought-after colour to the magnolia season. Unlike many yellow hybrids, 'Yellow Bird' produces flowers of a truly vibrant, sulphur-yellow hue. The cup-shaped blossoms appear just as the foliage emerges in late spring, which helps protect the buds from late frosts—a common problem with earlier flowering magnolias in the UK. The tree has a neat, upright, pyramidal habit when young, eventually maturing into a more rounded form. It is hardy to H6 and grows well in fertile, moisture-retentive, preferably slightly acidic soil, though it can tolerate neutral conditions if well-mulched. It requires a sheltered spot away from strong winds to protect the large leaves and flowers. This cultivar is an excellent choice for a specimen tree in a medium-sized garden, offering a unique vertical accent and an unforgettable spring display. It is relatively easy to care for once established.
