Purple Loosestrife 'The Beacon'
'The Beacon' is a selected cultivar of the native British Purple Loosestrife, valued for its more intense, vibrant flower colour. It produces tall, upright spikes of brilliant rose-red to magenta flowers that provide a long-lasting display throughout the summer. These spikes are a magnet for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making it an essential addition to a wildlife-friendly pond. The plant forms a sturdy, clump-forming woody base with willow-like leaves that turn attractive shades of red and orange in the autumn. It typically grows to a height of 100-120cm. It is extremely hardy (H7) and very easy to grow, thriving in boggy soil or the shallow margins of a pond. Unlike the wild species, which can be somewhat invasive in large wetlands, 'The Beacon' is more manageable in a garden setting but still offers the same robust health and ecological value.
