Wood Rush
Luzula sylvatica, or wood rush, is an invaluable evergreen perennial grass for shaded areas, forming lush mounds of broad, glossy, dark green leaves. In late spring to early summer, delicate, airy panicles of chestnut-brown flowers emerge, creating a soft, hazy effect above the foliage. It's an excellent choice for ground cover under trees and shrubs, in woodland gardens, or along shady pathways, providing year-round interest and suppressing weeds. This tough and adaptable plant thrives in moist, well-drained, acidic to neutral soils and is fully hardy in the UK, requiring minimal maintenance once established.
