Winter-flowering Honeysuckle 'Winter Beauty'
A delightful semi-evergreen shrub that serves as an excellent informal hedge, particularly valued for its mid-winter interest. 'Winter Beauty' produces a profusion of small, creamy-white tubular flowers on bare stems from December through to March. These flowers are intensely fragrant, offering a sweet scent when much of the rest of the garden is dormant. In particularly cold winters, it may lose more leaves, but the flowers remain prominent. The habit is somewhat arching and bushy, making it better suited for a loose, naturalistic hedge rather than a strictly formal one. It is very hardy (H6) and thrives in most well-drained soils. While it can grow in partial shade, the best flowering is achieved in a sunnier spot. To maintain as a hedge, it should be pruned after flowering in spring to encourage new growth for the following winter's blooms. It is a fantastic plant for supporting early-emerging pollinators.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Any well-drained, fertile soil.
Hardiness: H6 — down to −20°C.
Flowering: Jan, Feb, Mar, Dec.
