Box-leaved Honeysuckle 'Maigrün'
Lonicera ligustrina var. yunnanensis 'Maigrün' (often sold as Lonicera nitida 'Maigrün') is a vigorous, evergreen shrub that is widely used as a resilient alternative to Box hedging. It is characterized by its small, glossy, bright lime-green leaves that retain a fresh, vibrant appearance throughout the year. The habit is naturally spreading and dense, which makes it excellent for low to medium-sized hedges that need to be established quickly. It is much more resistant to the pests and diseases that can plague Buxus, such as box blight and box caterpillar. While it produces tiny, fragrant creamy-white flowers in spring, they are often hidden by the foliage. This plant is incredibly tough, tolerating poor soils, heavy shade, and urban environments. Because it is fast-growing, it requires clipping two or three times during the growing season to maintain a sharp, formal appearance. It is fully hardy and adapts well to most UK garden conditions.
