Japanese Honeysuckle 'Repens'

Lonicera 'Repens' is a versatile semi-evergreen climber valued for its attractive winter foliage and scented summer flowers. The leaves are flushed with a purplish-bronze tint, especially during the colder months, providing good year-round interest. In summer, it produces fragrant, tubular flowers that emerge white with a purple-red flush on the outside, then fade to yellow as they mature. This variety is very vigorous and can easily reach 4-6 metres, making it useful for covering large areas of fencing or screening. It is a twining climber that will need a support such as wire or trellis. It is hardy across the UK, although it may lose its leaves in very severe winters. It performs best in a spot where the roots are in the shade and the stems can grow into the sun. Occasional thinning out of older stems in spring will help keep the plant rejuvenated and prevent it from becoming overly tangled and woody at the base.
