Henry's Honeysuckle

Lonicera henryi is a vigorous, evergreen climber that is especially prized for its ability to provide a dense, year-round screen of dark green, elongated leaves. This makes it an excellent choice for covering unsightly fences or walls in the UK. In summer, it produces pairs of trumpet-shaped flowers that are purplish-red with yellow throats. While the flowers are not as overtly showy as some other honeysuckles, they have a subtle charm and are followed by striking black berries in the autumn. It is a very hardy plant (H5) and is more tolerant of shade than many other flowering climbers, although it will flower more profusely in a sunny spot. It requires a strong support system as it can become quite heavy over time. Pruning is best done in spring to control its size and remove any winter-damaged growth. It is generally pest-resistant and reliable in most garden settings.
