Purple-net Toadflax 'Flamenco'

Linaria reticulata 'Flamenco' is a charming and often overlooked hardy annual that creates a vibrant display of miniature, snapdragon-like flowers. Each flower is a striking combination of deep purple-red and bright yellow, often featuring intricate veining. Growing to a modest height of 30-40cm with slender, glaucous green foliage, it is ideal for the front of a border, gravel gardens, or containers. In the UK, it is particularly valued for its ability to flower quickly from an April sowing, often starting its display by June. It prefers poor to moderately fertile, well-drained soil; excessive nutrients can lead to floppy growth. It is an excellent nectar source for small bees and hoverflies. Because of its light, airy habit, it can be woven through other low-growing plants to add pops of intense colour. Deadheading will encourage a second flush of blooms, or it can be left to self-seed in sunny, stony spots.
