Purple Toadflax 'Canon Went'
Linaria purpurea 'Canon Went' is a charming and delicate perennial that adds a light, airy feel to any garden. It produces tall, slender, upright spikes covered in numerous tiny, snapdragon-like flowers in a beautiful pale shell-pink. Its foliage consists of fine, narrow, blue-grey leaves that form a neat clump at the base. Reaching about 60-90cm in height, it is a fantastic plant for a cottage garden or a naturalistic planting scheme, where it can weave through other perennials. It is a prolific self-seeder, often appearing in cracks in paving or at the edges of paths, which adds to its informal charm. It thrives in full sun and prefers a well-drained soil, even thriving in poor or stony ground. It is fully hardy (H6) and drought-tolerant once established. It is a great nectar source for bees and butterflies. While the individual plants may not be long-lived, its tendency to self-sow ensures it remains a permanent feature in the garden. It is a low-maintenance and delightful addition to a sunny border.
