Spotted Lenophyllum
Lenophyllum guttatum is a small, relatively unknown but highly attractive succulent that is perfect for the UK indoor gardener. It forms loose rosettes of thick, boat-shaped leaves that are a pale grey-green, heavily marked with striking dark purple or chocolate-brown spots and streaks. Under bright light, the entire plant can take on a beautiful metallic sheen. It has a creeping habit, and the leaves detach easily to form new plants, making it very easy to propagate. In the UK, it is rated H2 and is best grown on a sunny windowsill or in a temperate conservatory. In summer, it produces upright spikes of small, inconspicuous yellow-green flowers. Its small scale and unusual markings make it a perfect companion for other miniature succulents like Haworthias or Gasterias. It requires very well-drained, gritty soil and careful watering to ensure it doesn't stay damp, especially during the darker, cooler months of the year.
Sun: Full sun.
Soil: Gritty, well-drained compost.
