French Lavender 'Regal Splendour'

Lavandula stoechas 'Regal Splendour' is a striking variety of French Lavender known for its deep violet-purple flower heads topped with distinctive, long, wavy royal-purple bracts, often referred to as 'ears'. This evergreen shrub has a compact, bushy habit and aromatic, slender grey-green foliage that adds a sensory dimension to Mediterranean-style borders or patio containers. Flowering typically begins in late spring and can continue through summer if deadheaded regularly. In the UK, French Lavender is slightly more tender than English Lavender, preferring a very sunny, sheltered spot away from cold, drying winds. It requires gritty, free-draining soil to survive the winter damp. It is an excellent choice for attracting pollinators, particularly bumblebees, to the garden. Pruning should be done carefully after the first flush of flowers to maintain shape, taking care not to cut back into old wood which rarely regenerates well.

Sun: Full sun.

Soil: Light, well-drained soil.

Hardiness: H4 — down to −10°C.

Flowering: May, Jun, Jul, Aug.
