Spring Pea 'Alboroseus'
Lathyrus vernus 'Alboroseus' is a charming, clump-forming herbaceous perennial that is perfectly suited to the UK woodland garden or a shady border. Unlike its climbing relatives, this species forms neat, bushy mounds of bright green, pinnate leaves. In early spring, it produces a profusion of pea-like flowers that open a delicate white and gradually mature to a soft rosy-pink, often creating a bi-colour effect on the plant. This early nectar source is highly attractive to bees. It thrives in well-drained soil but likes a consistent moisture level during the growing season. It is remarkably hardy (H7) and very reliable, returning year after year to herald the start of the spring season. It does not require support and stays relatively compact, usually reaching about 30cm in height. After flowering, the foliage remains attractive before the plant goes dormant in late summer.
Sun: Partial shade.
Soil: Well-drained, moderately fertile soil.
Hardiness: H7 — below −20°C.
Flowering: Mar, Apr, May.
