Everlasting Sweet Pea 'White Pearl'

Lathyrus latifolius 'White Pearl' is a robust, herbaceous perennial climber that returns year after year, unlike the more common annual sweet pea. It produces masses of pure, snow-white pea-like flowers held in large clusters on long stems, which are excellent for cutting. While it lacks the fragrance of its annual cousins, its vigour and longevity make it an essential plant for a traditional UK cottage garden. It uses tendrils to scramble over fences, trellises, or through established shrubs. It is extremely hardy and will die back to the ground in winter, only to shoot up rapidly in spring. It thrives in any reasonable garden soil in full sun. To prolong the flowering season, it is vital to cut the flowers regularly or remove seed pods. This plant is particularly useful for covering unsightly structures quickly during the summer months due to its fast growth habit.
