Japanese Larch 'Blue Dwarf'

'Blue Dwarf' is a charming, deciduous conifer that forms a rounded, bushy shrub. It is particularly noted for its soft, needle-like leaves that are a distinct steely-blue throughout the spring and summer. As a larch, it provides classic autumn interest when the needles turn a bright, golden-yellow before falling to reveal the intricate, twiggy structure of the branches in winter. This cultivar is very slow-growing and often sold as a "lollipop" tree grafted onto a clear stem, though it can also be found as a low-standing shrub. It is fully hardy (H6) and prefers a position in full sun with moist but well-drained, acidic to neutral soil. It is an excellent choice for adding a different texture and seasonal change to a conifer collection or rock garden. It is generally easy to grow but does not like to dry out completely in summer.
