Dahurian Larch 'Tharandt'
'Tharandt' is a very rare and highly desirable dwarf Larch that forms a perfect, tight globe of foliage without any need for pruning. As it is a deciduous conifer, it provides a changing display through the seasons. In spring, the branches are covered in soft, bright green tufts of needles that look wonderfully fresh. These turn a rich, golden yellow in the late autumn before falling to reveal a dense network of intricate, winter-hardy twigs. 'Tharandt' is extremely slow-growing, making it an ideal specimen for a container, a small alpine garden, or as part of a miniature conifer collection. It is one of the hardiest trees on earth, originating from the extreme Siberian cold, so the UK winter poses no threat to it whatsoever. It does, however, require a position in full sun and a soil that does not dry out completely in the summer. Its neat, mathematical symmetry makes it a beautiful focal point in a minimalist or modern garden design.
