Yellow Archangel 'Hermanns Pride'
While the species can be invasive, 'Hermann's Pride' is a much better behaved and highly ornamental cultivar ideal for UK gardens. It forms a neat, non-invasive mound of distinctive, narrow leaves that are heavily marbled with bright silvery-metallic streaks against a dark green background. This striking foliage remains semi-evergreen in milder winters, providing year-round texture. In late spring, it produces whorls of pale yellow, hooded flowers that attract bees. It is particularly useful for difficult, dry shade areas under mature trees or shrubs where few other things will grow. It is extremely hardy and resilient, tolerating a wide range of soil conditions, though it prefers a well-drained but moist loam. Its shimmering leaves are excellent for lighting up dark corners of the garden. It is a low-maintenance choice that only needs a light trim once a year to keep it looking its best.
