Lettuce 'Salad Bowl'

'Salad Bowl' is a classic and highly reliable "cut and come again" loose-leaf lettuce that is a staple for UK vegetable gardens. It produces large, attractive rosettes of deeply lobed, lime-green leaves that resemble oak leaves. One of its greatest strengths is its excellent resistance to bolting, allowing it to remain edible even during the hottest British summer spells when other varieties might turn bitter and go to seed. It is also remarkably slow to develop a bitter taste. Gardeners can harvest individual outer leaves as needed, allowing the heart to continue growing, or cut the entire plant. It is very easy to grow and can be sown every few weeks from March to August for a continuous supply. Its soft, tender texture and mild flavour make it a perfect base for summer salads. It also performs well in containers and window boxes for those with limited space. It is generally resistant to downy mildew.
