Mother of Thousands
Kalanchoe daigremontiana, commonly known as Mother of Thousands, is a fascinating and easy-to-grow succulent, popular for its unique reproductive strategy. Along the margins of its large, grey-green, spotted leaves, it produces numerous tiny plantlets, which readily drop off and root, making it a prolific spreader indoors in the UK. While not outdoor hardy, it can be grown as an interesting summer container plant on a sheltered patio, brought indoors for winter. It can produce bell-shaped, pinkish-orange flowers when mature, though the plantlets are its defining feature. Requires bright light and well-drained soil. Handle with care, it can be invasive.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Well-drained potting mix.
